Bill allowing demonstrators to protest without permit sought in Myanmar parliament

A new bill allowing demonstrators to stage protest without seeking permission from the authorities is being sought in Myanmar's Union Parliament, parliament sources said on Friday.

The revised Peaceful Assembly and Procession Bill, drawn up in accordance with the country's multi-party democratic system and submitted to the House of Nationalities (Upper House), states that it is only required to inform the police station in the designated township 48 hours before the start of the event and each police station in the townships is also to be informed where demonstrators are set to pass through.
